It all began on Friday when I noticed my dorm apartment filled with about 25 people. It was around 9 pm, an hour earlier there were 3 people in my apartment 2 of my roommates and I. I had my evening planned out which involved going to the University of Chicago for some party but when I found out what was happening in my room I cancelled those plans immediately.
My roommate Brian had been in his room all day and this was very much unlike his usual extroverted self. As I bustled through the packed living room to reach his room I noticed him memorizing lines, I asked him what was going on. He looked up at me grinning and said 'the Reception' I responded asking who got married, and he responded saying 'Sydney and Alex are getting married' I then went on to say but doesn't a reception usually happen after Wedding, Brian: Uhhh.. At that point I knew I had to stay for the most bizarre series of events that were going to take place around me. Upon leaving the room I asked Brian what he was memorizing, what he was about to say brought 100% assurance to me not going elsewhere for the night 'Oh I got Ordained online, I'm going to be marrying Sydney and Alex.'
As I made the journey back to my room I noticed an unfamiliar face sitting by my chair. I introduced myself "Hi I'm Rohan, and you are?" 'Hey I'm Alex' I stopped for a second and looked closer at him, he was just a kid not a day over 19. I thought to myself, they must really love each other, must of been together since Middle school. I went on to ask for the story, but before that I asked about the proposal and he responded "Hahaha I asked her over the phone two nights ago, and she said yes!" hmmm romantic. I was a little scared to ask for the story but was too curious he responded "Oh we've been really good friends for about 2 months." My jaw dropped.
After a round of questioning and getting to know Alex, I then went outside only to notice the room had only gotten more populated I then therefore stepped back into my room only to notice Alex gone but someone knew sitting by my dress. She was elegant and was wearing a white robe so it didn't take me long to guess who she was. I talked to her briefly but realized that she was not only elegant but was smart and mature. I asked why she was going through with this, and she responded saying "Spontaneity" I also dropped my jaw at this.
I made one last trip outside to see what was going on, and bumped into Brian I asked where the Wedding was taking place, and he responded "Right here man! The kitchen's going to be the alter and Daves going to playing the Cello as Sydney walks down the Isle." And so the ceremony began.
Sydney marched down the Isle accompanied by the music which I must say was beautiful. Alex awaited her laughing at the alter, Brian was dressed as a Minister and looked like he memorized all he needed to, and the rest of us looked upon the ceremony eagerly the total count was around 30 at that point. It was my first American Wedding not the prettiest one but still meant something to be there, the process began and it was just like the movies Brian stated everything, Sydney and Alex went about stating their vows and before we knew it the Wedding had reached the climactic point as Brian said "I no pronounce you.." Just then suddenly someone was knocking at the door. It turned out to be Residence life, and well the Wedding had ended, I believe it just wasn't meant to be but nonetheless it was an experience.
I don't know the where abouts of either Sydney or Alex, but all I know is they were both nice people and although it didn't work out in our kitchen who knows it may work out elsewhere in the future.
