The reason I'm a Music Business Major

Well let's see it all begins with my internship with HOM Records a record label back in Bombay, India. I interned with the A&R department and this taught me all I know today about how record labels go about choosing the artists they do. I also got exposure to the marketing side of the business which was also an amazing experience. After my internship ended I was confident I was going to one day open up my own record label.
In senior year our band recorded a couple of songs, but one of them was becoming popular not only through the school but also in the city. We decided to shoot a music video, this taught me a whole lot about the process artists go through once signed onto a label. All in all I was gaining important knowledge about the music industry, and how to about promoting artists.
I was at Purdue University for a semester before coming to Columbia, it was there I realized that I couldn't sit around studying economics so I could just join some corporate job, I knew that music was my future. I'm hoping to get the education that will help me to open a record label back in India.

  1. glad to see you're following your passion, well done. there are so many avenues to make a living in music, it's always great to have someone on the business side that cares about the creative process and not just the bottom line...i think if more of the business folks had a creative edge and understood the process of creation we would have a better business...
good luck, sounds like your wheels are in forward motion.
